About Bhimtal

Bhimtal, situated at a distance of 22kms from Nainital. Bhimtal is named after one of the Pandav brothers called Bhim. The largest lake in the district of Nainital, Bhim Tal is 1701 metres by 265 metres, 265 metres longer than Naini Lake. The lake known for its magnificent majesty is situated at an altitude of 1371.6 metres above sea level.

Bhimtal , with its lake, is a peaceful place. Like Naini Lake, the smaller Bhimtal Lake also offers boating trip on the lake. Saat Tal is 21km from Nainital, and is so named because of its seven lakes ( saat : seven). Trekking, mountain biking, kayaking and rock climbing are some of the sports recommended here. 26km from Nainital is Naukuchiyatal , which has a nine-cornered lake, and hence the name ( nau : nine).

HOW TO REACH THERE

By Air : Bhimtal does not have an airport of its own. The nearest airport is at Pant Nagar (55 km).

By Road : Bhimtal is well connected by bus with Nainital and Kathgodam. Tourists can also reach Bhimtal by hiring taxi from Nainital or Kathgodam.

By Rail : The nearest railway station is at Kathgodam (23 km).

MAIN ATTRACTIONS IN BHIMTAL

Naukuchiatal : Naukuchiatal is 4 km from Bhimtal. It is a lake having nine corners. Like Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal also has quiet verdant environs, which attracts the traveler to it. This tree-fringed lake is good for boating.

Sat Tal : Sat Tal (literally seven lakes) is 7 km from Bhimtal. It is another important place to visit. Sat Tal was originally a cluster of seven lakes, out of which two have dried up. It is famous for fishing and boating. The densely wooded hills and little creeks along the shores of the lakes are a perennial attraction to the tourists. Godhakhel Temple is 3 km from Bhim Tal.

Bhowali : Bhowali , near Nainital, is famous for its gardens and orchards.

Kainchi : Kainchi is a situated on the road to Almora, and is known for a temple built by a sage called Neem Karauli Baba. Thousands of devotees come here to pray.

Gorkhakhal : Gorkhakhal is another small town famous for its temple. It is believed that praying here leads to the fulfillment of one's wishes.
