About Dharamshala
Dharamshala or Dharamsala is one of the ace tourist spots in Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala offers the magnificent view of snow covered Dhauladhar peaks.Dharamshala has always been the attraction for tourists from abroad. There is also a newely built world class cricket stadium in Dharamsala. Dharamshala is also one of the fastest growing cities in Himachal Pradesh. There are a number of good hotels and restaurants in Dharamsala.
Dharamshala stands at the foot of Dhauladhar and has a magnificent view of snowy peaks, deodar and pine forests, tea gardens and beautiful hills. The snow line is perhaps more easily accessible at Dharamshala than any other hill station in India. Dharamshala now really has become international, with a number of Tibetan settlements and the residence of Noble Laureate the 'Dalai Lama'. Dharamshala is devided into two distinct parts : lower Dharamshala the civil and business area with Courts and Kotwali bazar and upper Dharamshala composed of places like Mcleod Ganj and Forsyth Ganj.
HOW TO REACH THERE
By Air : Nearest airport is Gaggal airport located 15 km. from Dharamshala. Other airports having regular service are : Jammu 200 km., Amritsar 210 km. and Chandigarh 260 km.
By Road : Almost each and every part of the state is linked by roads. The Himachal Road Transport Corporation is running its buses covering the whole state. There is huge network of HRTC to cater the needs of the people.
By Rail : Nearest broad gauge railhead is Pathankot 95 km. A narrow gauge railway line between Pathankot and Jogindernagar passes through Kangra, 17 km. from Dharamshala.
MAIN ATTRACTIONS :
•His Holiness's Temple (5 Km) : The impressive monastery has larger than life images of the Buddha, Padma Sambha and Avalokteshwara.
• ST. John In Wilderness (3 Km) : Between Forsythganj & Mcleodganj lies the charming St. John's Church built with dressed stone and has beautiful stained glass windows.
• Kangra Art Meseum (13 Km) : This museum in Kotwali bazaar has artifacts dating back to 5th century which display the rich past of the Kangra Valley. It includes a gallery of Kangra's famous miniature paintings, sculptures, pottery and anthropological items.
• Bhagsunath Temple / Waterfall (1700 m) 6 Km : The old temple of Bhagsunath has a fresh water spring. Further, about a half km. is a beautiful waterfall.
• Dharamkot (2100m) 5 Km : Situated on the crest of a hill, it affords a panoramic view of Kangra Valley, Pong Dam & Dhauladhar ranges.
•Dal Lake (1700m) 1.2 Km : A scenic picnic spot surrounded by forests of Deodar. An annual fair is held here every September.
•Naddi (1800 m) 2 Km : After Dal Lake is scenic spot Naddi, having a panoramic view of Kangra valley and Dhauladhar range.
•Kareri (1983 m) 8 Km : Passing through Dal Lake, Satobari & Ghera proceed to Kareri. 13 km further is the Kareri Lake (3200m) having beautiful high altitude meadows, extensive pasture lands & undulating slopes carpeted with patch work of green floral patterns.
• Triund (2975 m) 14 Km : A gradual trek which passes through Dharamkot and Rakkar Villages. Triund is a popular picnic and trekking spot at the feet of the perpetually snow clad Dhauladhar range. The snow line starts at Illaqua (3350m) - 5 km after Triund.
• Warmemorial (13 Km) : Landscaped lawns and a web of narrow paths fill a pine grove where a monument has been raised to commemorate the post independence war heroes of Himachal.
•Kunal Pathri (13 Km) : A little rock temple dedicated to a local goddess. The road passes through a picturesque forest and tea gardens.
