Historically Serviced Apartments emerged in the early 1980's in the US and then in Europe. Early 90's in South East Asia and in Australia. In India it is still a recent entrant.

In India Serviced Apartments are being built by few Hotel Company's as an addition to the Hotels. While in theory this works, we feel that the nature of business for Serviced Apartments calls for a very different type of treatment and should be a stand alone business and not attached to a Hotel. You are dealing with long stay guests and families who command a different type of approach than transient guests. This is not possible in a Hotel environment.

"Serviced Apartments means a building containing 2 or more self contained dwellings which are not under separate strata title, and which are cleaned or serviced by the owner or manager of the building (or agent of the owner or manager); provides private and/or communal facilities which are of adequate size and amenity, including, but not necessarily limited to; a laundry, guest reception and waiting area, and external open space; Provide temporary residential accommodation primarily for persons who have their principal place of residence elsewhere, such as tourists and visitors on business;

Serviced apartments are not to be mistaken or "Boarding House", "Backpackers Accommodation", "Bed and Breakfast", "Hospital" or "Hotel" accommodation."

Taj's Wellington Mews and Ascot's Savoy Suites are an example of this. This lends itself to providing tailor made, cost effective, private facilities for long stay guests and families, which very unlike the Hotel feel. There are smaller lobbies, limited F&B, private Bar's and Dining, private Health Club and Pool, flexible hours of use of the pool and Health Club, lower overheads, therefore a lower cost accommodation and other charges.
